(more…)

The Importance of One Percent

Never underestimate the value of one percent. One percent may sound negligible, but it isn’t. On a genetic level, we humans are only about one percent different from chimpanzees.

If you were 99% happy, and just 1% sad, would you be satisfied with this result? If you were 99% well, and just 1% ill, would this be acceptable? Suppose a person were 99% sane and just 1% insane, would this be a safe ratio? I suggest the answer to all three of these questions is no.

One percent of your life is about fifteen minutes each day.

Fifteen minutes of daily sadness, illness or insanity is far too much to be considered satisfactory, acceptable and safe.

Everyone is Going Vegan. Here is Why.

Joaquin Phoenix Vegan. Photo source: PETA.

Everyone? Yes, everyone! And that includes you, dear reader.

Historically, the brightest and most elite thinkers of our world have always preferred plants over animals on their plates. That includes Albert Einstein, Albert Newton, Nicola Tesla, Hippocrates, Pythagoras, Benjamin Franklin, Budha, Gandhi, and more. The earliest vegans maintained this healthy lifestyle while the masses clung to tired patterns of senseless, unhealthy, barbaric behavior.

Today, all leading health organizations and studies support plant-based diets. That includes the World Health Organization and its International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations*, the American Heart Association, the American Journal of Cardiology, and The China Study, based on 20 years of research by  Cornell University, Oxford University and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, a study described by The New York Times as “the Grand Prix of epidemiology.”

All serious athletes prefer plants to power their performance. And that includes UFC Champions, NFL football stars, ultra-marathon runners, major league baseball players, NBA basketball stars, heavy weight lifting champions, figure skaters, and heavyweight champion boxers. (See my article The New, Improved Mike Tyson.)

A Roadmap to Inner Peace

Inner peace cannot be purchased or sold, nor can it be downloaded or e-mailed. The good news is that you already have it within you. If you have not found it yet, you are probably not far from finding it. The most common reason for not finding inner peace is that we instead chase after small portions of outer peace. We tell ourselves that we have found inner peace, and we stop searching for true inner peace before even beginning to search within. The following tips will help you to distinguish true inner peace from its impostor, outer peace.

Inner peace vs. outer peace

Inner peace is always within you, while outer peace depends on one or more outside circumstances. Inner peace was within you before you were born, will be with you after you die, and it is in you now, even if chaos surrounds you. Outer peace comes and goes depending on external circumstances, such as soft music or nature sounds, a relaxing massage or a yoga class. Inner peace is permanent; outer peace is temporary.

Yoga and the search for inner peace

Yoga is designed to help you find inner peace, and all true yoga masters have found it. Continue reading “A Roadmap to Inner Peace”

Redefining Pizza, from Addictive Drug to Superfood

The Original Pizza Recipe was Delicious but Flawed

Pizza is an Italian specialty dish that has spread across the globe in a million variations. In some cases, the only resemblance to the original is its characteristic disk shape. Millions have invented “new” versions of pizza, usually by adding ingredients. Sadly, few have had the courage (or the knowledge) to address the two major problems with the original Neapolitan recipe. Continue reading “Redefining Pizza, from Addictive Drug to Superfood”
